Extruder Plant
Overview
The project scope included the design, management and installation of equipment and services for a pet food extrusion plant, rated at 4TPH of dried extrusions complete with bulk storage and blending facilities.
Problem
The client previously manufactured wet pet foods with only a small and old extrusion line operating and manufacturing a limited amount of dry foods. With a change in consumer purchasing trends the client saw the potential and opportunity in the dry pet foods market.
Solution
To capitalise on this opportunity the client invested in a new, purpose built extrusion plant. The plant consisted of a bulk storage block of six smooth walled bins (with a capacity of 60 cubic metres), screw dischargers rated at 20TPH, weigh boat suspended under the bulk storage silos, discharge and transfer handling equipment rated at 20TPH, grinding system with twin 1 tonne live bins, mixing system & minor ingredients and sack tipping station for adding sack additions directly into the mixing chamber, extruder and pneumatic conveying system suitable for transferring product to dryer at 5TPH of wet product, dryer and conveying systems suitable for handling dried extrusions at 4TPH, coater and screening and conveying systems suitable for handling dried extrusions and a cooler and conveying systems suitable for handling dried extrusions at 4 TPH.
Result
A facility that manufactured dry products to meet the ever increasing product demand, with their range of dry pet foods stocked in most major supermarkets nationally.
