GAME Engineering attend The Institute for Aerospace Technology Showcase at Nottingham University
On Friday 8th November, The Institute for Aerospace Technology (IAT) at The University of Nottingham hosted their first Showcase event. The IAT is working with global aerospace companies and currently has an aerospace research portfolio of over 70 externally funded projects valued at circa £56million.
Following Game Engineering’s work with the IAT in a carbon fibre composites project, commissioned by aircraft manufacturer Boeing, the process engineering company were invited to exhibit at the showcase.
The event comprised keynote addresses in the following areas:
- UK Aerospace and Innovation 2013-2050 – A Pilot’s perspective. Paul Heathcote, Pilot, British Airways
- A Manufacturer’s Perspective. Current challenges facing the Aerospace sector. Jackie Wildhaber, Assistant Chief Engineer, Applied Research, Rolls-Royce plc
- From Clean Sky to Clean Sky 2: Innovation Takes Off – Ron van Manen, Programme Manager CS2
- UK Aerospace Technology: An overview of current developments – Dr Ruth Mallors-Ray, Director, AAD KTN
Afternoon seminars were held at the Aerospace Technology Centre and lunch and Game Engineering exhibited next to the pilot model, commissioned by Boeing to develop recycling technology for carbon fibre composites.
The aircraft manufacturer is working with the Polymer Composites Research Group in the Institute of Aerospace Technology at The University of Nottingham to develop recycling technology for carbon fibre composites. The aim of the project is to promote a more sustainable use of materials. Game Engineering was selected by the IAT to assist with the manufacture of a scaled-up pilot plant for the recycling process by providing design, manufacturing and project management services for the University.
