New Vs Reconditioned
If you are unlucky enough to experience a fire on your production site, the question that requires answering is do we replace with new or do we recondition.
There are several factors that are going to preside over these questions…cost and time being the most fundamental.
Our experience at GAME has led us down various paths, with various customers reconditioning their fire damaged conveying equipment while others have requested us to design, manufacture and install new.
There are pros and cons associated with both of these options which are listed below.
Reconditioned
Pros
- Quick turnaround due to the equipment already being built
- Minimum impact on business due to quick turnaround (no productions time and shipping)
- Able to save money as only replacing the severely damaged parts
Cons
- It isn’t new
- Quick turnaround dependant on contracts availability
New
Pros
- Able to upgrade or improve any past issues/problems
Cons
- Expensive
- Can be a longer turnaround due to sourcing equipment
- GAME reconditioned a saw dust processing plant. Our engineers were on site immediately to assess to damage and to arrange the collection of the damaged equipment for an instantaneous start.
In a three week time frame we were able to rebuild screw conveyors, in-feed belts which included over band metal detectors, bucket elevators and ‘Miracle’ mills. A discharge system was also rebuilt to increase their performance.
In a similar set of circumstances, a bird seed producer asked GAME to design, manufacture and install a new bird seed cleaning plant after a fire.
In a three month period GAME completed two phases. He first phase included the installation of a mixing tower which included a paddle mixer; tote bins, weighing , handling and packing. The second phase included an intake, cleaning, product storage and automatic feeding to tote bins and packing station.
